Dumplings – Ready in 5

Dinner in Five Minutes

I stumbled across this recipe as I made an impulsive buy at the shops a week ago. I was shopping hungry… never a great move.

Even toothpaste was looking edible at this point

As I was heading to the checkout Mr Chen’s Ginger Prawn Dumplings were half price! I have never bought dumplings in my entire life. But they were all the rage in Perth with packed out dumpling eating houses (I went there recently for work). I wanted to try. I grabbed a packet on the way to the checkout. It was half price and I am after all, an Asian, who can’t go past a bargain.

Well my impulse buy turned out to be Greenie’s favourite meal for the week. I made dumpling soup. I added chicken stock, broccolini and some ginger to a saucepan with 3-4 cups of water, then at the end, added the dumplings straight from the packet and cooked them for five minutes.


The Result

It was incredible. We added chopped chilli to each bowl, had a little dipping side of soy sauce mixed with hot sauce to drown the dumplings in. Taste sensation! All ready in literally 5 minutes. For under $10.

What do you need?
  • Chicken Stock (I used four Massel chicken stock cubes)
  • Ginger (I used fresh in one big chunk for flavour)
  • Brocollini (I used two bunches. Because I love Broccolini)
  • Packet of Dumplings (we used prawn but there is also chicken and vegetarian).
  • Water – 3-4 cups (more or less depending on how soupy you like it).
