4 Ways to Nourish your Body, Soul and Spirit this week

Own Your Health – Changing the way you Think, Eat and Live

I don’t know about you, but it is only March and I feel like we have already lived a whole year in the space of three months. I am sure I speak on behalf of many of you when I say, life has been, F U L L.

So this week I think we should all intentionally be kind to ourselves. Including myself. To actively practice self-care.

Here are Four Simple things that we can all do to nourish our mind, body and soul.

  • 1. Eat something Green every day

Food is not just about calories. Food is medicine. Food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly. There is no better way to nourish your body than eating more Greens! Broccoli, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, spinach, cucumber, rocket, silverbeet, and snow peas. Green veggies are simply the best medicine on the planet. Work out a way to eat more greens in at least one meal each day this week. Have a green smoothie loaded with celery (leaves included), apples, cucumber, spinach and coconut water for breakfast. Have a big salad at lunch with your protein of choice, topped with a whole avocado. Sautee some asparagus with garlic and olive oil to have on the side with your dinner. Your body will thank you, your skin will glow and you will feel a sense of pride knowing that you are blessing your body.

  • 2. Treat yourself.

Sometimes it is easier to buy indulgences for others and neglect ourselves. It is so important to do something for you. This week, indulge yourself in a facial, a pedicure, or maybe a massage. Do something that brings you joy and relaxation. You are worth it. Seriously. I am getting a massage. I am not even remotely sore anywhere, I just want one. So this week I am absolutely going to treat myself to a relaxing massage. Maybe I will get two.

  • 3. Practice Deep thought.
Do you know that we are the most overinformed, under-reflected generation in history?

I have been a key culprit of this is the past. I have lived week after week, month after month, to year after year without carving out time to reflect. It has robbed me from enjoying the success of the present. It has prevented me from using some time to revaluate my current priorities. It has caused me to continue on a busy trajectory in the completely wrong direction. Now, every morning I take time to just sit and reflect on the day just passed and on my day ahead. I think about my biggest wins from the day before. Who and what I am grateful for. I frame up the future day. What I want to achieve. Who I want to bless.  I wonder if you would be willing to practice deep thought this week? Even if it is for 10 minutes at the beginning or end of each day. It truly has changed my life.

  • 4. Practice a Random Act of Kindness.

Acts of kindness don’t have to be huge! Write a thank-you note to your boss. Buy some flowers for your workmate for no reason. Just because! Choose someone at a café and pay for their meal and leave them a beautiful note. There is nothing more restorative than giving of yourself to others. In fact, if I am having a particularly bad day, I go out of my way to do something for someone else. It is an INSTANT pick me up. Once I bought someone’s meal and hid around the corner until they went to pay so I could see their reaction! It did not disappoint. You would have thought I had bought them a house. They nearly kissed the waiter on the lips! It absolutely made my day.

To ‘Own Your Health’ is to practice self-care

These are the four things I will do this week! Why don’t you join me?

Until next time,

Own Your Health – Changing the way you Think, Eat and Live

Wink – Have you ever pondered the use of underarm hair? It seems so incredibly benign right? And so difficult to remove! They withstand even the strongest wax! And it grows so FAST. It always seems to appear out of nowhere! I wish the hair on my head would grow that fast! I kid you not, while writing I happened to raise my arms and look sideways. The length and thickness of my own hair gave me a fright! I had to stop writing immediately and take care of the situation! It was an emergency.
