Do Not Partner with the Lies of Disappointment!
I was sitting in the car with my husband on the way to church a couple of weeks back and all of a sudden, almost tangibly, I had these waves of despondency and disappointment come over me.
Thoughts went through my mind that said:
- What are you doing with your life?
- You used to have a fabulous well-paying job.
- You used to earn a secure amount every week.
- Your job was respected and esteemed.
- Now you are writing articles no one cares about.
- You are writing a book no one has seen.
- Your income is unsustainable.
- You are wasting 10 years of study.
- You are being irresponsible.
- How do you think you are you going to change to world?
Honestly. It was like wave after wave of these horrible thoughts came over me until I was nearly crying. All of it seemed true at the time. I felt despondent and, in that moment, and honestly for a week after, full of doubt.
It took me nearly a week to shake out of this slump. Sure I still continued to work hard on my business and kept writing, but these gnawing doubts continued to whisper ever so subtly into my ear, before I stopped and identified the lies for what they really were. Deceiving lies. Next time I will recognise a lie much quicker, I promise you!
I am so thankful that this testimony opened my eyes ……..
Intrusive lies of Disappointment!
I want to share with you a testimony of this incredible lady who overcame similar lies of disappointment in the most profound way.
A testimony from an incredible Single Mum
Christine was a single mum who had been experienced living in a domestic violence relationship. She was left to raise her daughter on her own living only on the benefits she received from the Government. Desperate to make a better life for herself and her daughter she enrolled into an entrepreneur’s school that was being run out of a church one hour from her home. The government was subsidising 8000 dollars for every student. The school ran every Monday night for one year. On the first night she bundled herself and her daughter into their car, and prepared to make the long drive only to find that she was nearly out of petrol. She had no money to refuel, as her benefit wasn’t due to come through until the next day.
Determined to let nothing stop her, she placed her hand over the fuel gauge and prayed. The indicator went up. She made it there and back, and had enough petrol for a week!
When it came time to start her business, Christine went through every possible idea that she could pursue. The only legitimate idea that she could think of was cleaning. She enjoyed cleaning her own home and she knew that she did it with excellence. So she decided to start a cleaning business. Her friend introduced her to two of her neighbours who were agreed to let Christine start cleaning their houses.
With her first two customers confirmed, Christine embarked on her business. At the beginning of this venture, she clearly recalls a moment when she was cleaning the toilet of one of the houses, and a thought came completely out of the blue.
“You are nothing but a toilet cleaner. That is all you are, and all you ever will be.”
As the waves of disappointment washed over her, something inside her rose up and Christine reacted with the utmost courage.
She turned and nearly yelled out loud proclaiming,
“I am a Joseph in Potiphar’s house, people will see the glory of God through me.”
Fighting the lies of despondency and inferiority by declaring God’s Word, from that moment on she didn’t look back. Her business went from strength to strength. She started to have more work than what she could manage on her own so she had to hire people. By being involved in an abusive relationship herself and raising her daughter on her own, she had extreme compassion for single mothers and victims of abuse. She hired these women and fought to give everyone a second chance at a better life. Her business has continued to thrive and she now has a business in multiple states. She recently relocated to Queensland and her company was given the Army barracks to clean! She is a thriving business woman, financially prospering, and her business is literally changing the lives of broken women throughout Australia.
Imagine if she had partnered with those lies of disappointment? She recognised them for what they were immediately and refused to give them a second chance.
Do not partner with lies of disappointment
That is the same spirit that came over me. They were nothing but lies. If only I had seen it as quickly as Christine had. Instead I tried to fight the heaviness for a week or more before I shook it off.
Beloved have you had lies of disappointment come at you?
Have you let them dampen your spirit?
Have you let them stop you from dreaming?
Have you let it slow you down from your destiny and your calling?
Do not partner with them beloved.
The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. But the Father comes to give life, and life abundantly.
You were called to “Reign in Life.” This means to Dream High. To Dream Wide. And to put those dreams into Action.
Until next time,
You are deeply loved and richly Cherished,
Reign in Life
Wink: Okay so I have taken to Tony Robbins. I find him incredibly fascinating and Unbelievably inspiring. Seriously. The man is the author of six internationally bestselling books! Plus he has empowered more than 50 million people from 100 countries in business, lifestyle and personnel and professional development. The president called him at 33 years of age to ask for advice!
He is America’s number one life and business strategist and probably the world. And he is such an incredible philanthropist. He has partnered with Feeding America and has provided over 400 million meals in the last three years. His aim is to provide a billion meals over the next seven years. He provides 250 000 people in India a day with fresh water. This is only a fraction of what he does. The man is a King amongst men.
I am deeply enjoying getting to know him more (virtually of course, but I plan to meet him in real life too, although I am not sure we will have as deep a friendship as Oprah and I will have). Anyway, here is a fun fact. One of the things he does every single morning at the crack of dawn. Plunges himself into a plunge pool of freezing cold water. He claims this wakes him up and invigorates him. How fascinating is that! Maybe I need me a plunge pool Mark! What’s good for Tony Robbins has to be good for us alright?
