One Step At A Time

One step at a time

For all the dreamers, high achievers and leaders in my tribe.

For those whose dreams are higher than Heidi Klum and goals that seem so lofty and unachievable that you don’t know where to begin.

I hear you! Believe me I am in exactly the same boat.

I read a story this week in a book by Tim Costello called Hope that encouraged me more than I can say. I want to share an excerpt out of his book with you.

Take the next step

Young people often seek me out for advice about their careers. They usually start the conversation saying something flattering like they have followed me in media or like my stance on something. Some even say that one day they would love to be a CEO of an organisation like World Vision Australia and ask me to tell them how I got there.

I sometimes tell anxious young people who are starting out on their own journey a story I heard when I was young. A father who was a coalminer took his son down the shaft into the underground pit where he worked. He said, ‘Wait here in this lit space as I need to go along this tunnel.’ While the son was waiting for his father to come back, the light in the mine failed. He was in pitch darkness and screamed out for his father. Down the tunnel, he heard his father’s voice command him to start walking towards him. The boy cried out that he could not see anything. His father said, ‘Is the light on your helmet on?’ The boy replied that yes it was, but that it only threw light on for on step ahead and it was deep black beyond that. His father said, ‘How much light can you see now.” The boy replied, ‘Only one step.’ Back came the instruction, ‘Well take that step’ There was enough light just for one step at a time and , of course by following the soothing advice, one step after the other, he finally reached the safety of his father’s strong arms.

We would all prefer to see much further ahead. We want the road map and to know the short curs. But usually we only have enough light for the next steps.

To get anywhere we must take that.

So to my young enquirers, I usually ask of them if they are doing what they need in this moment – maximising the light that is within them. Or are they trying to look too far ahead.

Take the step with the light you have.

Walk in that light it is sufficient.

Excerpt out of Hope by Tim Costello.

This encouraged me so deeply. So my beloved. Have a goal for this year. Use the resources in front of you. Draw from the wisdom of those around you right now, and take it one step at a time.

Tony Robbins said,

“People overestimate what they can do in a year, but underestimate what they can do in 3, 4 or 5 years.”

So dream big. They will come true. Just take one step at a time.

You are deeply loved and richly cherished,

Christine Greenwood.

Reign in life.

Wink: So step by step, I am closer to my goal of being friends with Oprah. Of having my own Oprah Winfrey Show. It’s going to be awesome. I will give away some cars.  Every Body Gets a Car!! Shubba! I dream about this kind of thang!

Have you read An open letter to my girls?

Love Toms advice. Nobody can be a great CEO of an organisation that makes global.impact without a lot of life experience, wisdom and God to make them into someone beautiful inside.
Go for your dreams Christine and let’s champion everyone to do the same. Greatness lies in all of us and encouragement and permission to be ourselves makes it a possibility.
