Ladies & Gentlemen Serving Ladies & Gentlemen.
I listened to a podcast with Horst Schulze who is the former President and COO of The Ritz-Carlton.
It was one of the most inspiring podcasts I have listened to in a long time.
Horst has cultivated the most renowned culture of excellence in his time as President of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. He spoke a little about one of the most powerful lessons of his life. A lesson that he learned at 14 years old that shaped how he lived his life.
He recalls how ever since he was young he desperately wanted to be in the hotel business. He begged his parents from the time he was a little boy, until finally at 14 years old they found him a job in the Best Hotel in their region. The hotel was only for the ‘very special’ ladies and gentlemen of the region. Those who had money and prestige. He boarded at the Hotel and his first job was emptying the cigarette ash trays of the guests.
It does not get much lower than that!
He tells how his supervisor at the time would gather all the young apprentices and say to them. “You are not slaves! You are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.”
I LOVED THIS
At the moment I am working as a doctor in a surgical department. People may think that being a Doctor is glamorous, however I can assure you that this is not the case. In fact glamorous is the last word I would use to describe it. While it is an absolute honour to be a doctor, the hours are endless, the work is highly stressful and demanding, and there is so much behind the scenes which is exhausting, and at times tedious.
Listening to this podcast was such a great reminder in how to see my work. It totally made me adjust my attitude. What a beautiful way to see the world.
In everything that we do, we are all ladies and gentlemen serving other ladies and gentlemen. We are serving one another and doing everything we can to add value to each other.
It makes no matter who you are and what you do. Whether you are CEO of a billion dollar company like the Ritze Carlton Hotels, or if you are a Pastor like my husband or a Doctor like myself, we are all ladies and gentleman serving ladies and gentlemen.
If you think like this you will succeed in love, in relationships and in life.
Beloved to Reign in life is to serve one another.
You are deeply loved and richly cherished.
Dr Christine Greenwood
Reign in life
WINK: Of course I need to be reminded of this motto when I am doing tedious paperwork at the end of a 12 hour shift. For all the doctors out there I am sure there will be some form of discharge summaries in hell.
